The Knit Before Christmas

To make a knitted or crocheted contribution to Christmas at Sea, please use one (or all!) of the patterns listed below. All items should be made in machine washable yarn: 3 ply yarn for socks, 4 ply yarn for all other items. Other tips & project requirements can be found at the bottom of this page.

PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES:

DO:

  • Call, write or email if you have any questions about our patterns
  • Make as many items as you like (or as you can!)
  • Use solid, tweed or variegated yarn
  • Check your gauge
  • Send pictures of your completed knits
  • Send your completed knits to the address listed below
  • Use colors that work for both men and women
  • Use carefully chosen colors to make stripes
  • Share these links with your knitting friends
  • Contact us if you cannot obtain yarn on your own

PLEASE DON’T:

  • Use pastel colored yarn
  • Attach pompoms or tassels

If obtaining yarn is difficult for you, or if you are on a fixed income, The Seamen’s Church Institute can send it to you at no cost. Or, if you would rather purchase your yarn from us, we suggest a donation of $2.50 per skein. Finished garments should be sent throughout the year to: Christmas-at-Sea 241 Water Street New York, NY 10038 Please be sure to include your name and address within the package so we can thank you! Gift packing begins not long after Labor Day and continues right up until Christmas. While we receive donations January through December, it is most helpful to us to receive your donations in the fall.
